Etawah, Feb 25 : Enraged at the murder of a jeweller's son, the family of the victim protested demanding the arrest of the accused, police sources said on Monday.
Superintendent of Police (city) Dr Ram Yash Singh said that Arpit Soni (25), son of Dharmendra Soni, a resident of Ramganj in the Kotwali area, who is a jeweller, was murdered after being kidnapped.
The family of the victim had reached the Yamuna bank to perform the last rites of Arpit among the presence of policemen, but a large number of people reached the spot and stopped the rituals while then proceeding towards the Nagar Palika crossroad where they kept the body and started demanding the arrest of the accused.
Efforts to persuade the agitated family are underway. Several jewellers of the city and other significant individuals are also taking part in the protest. SP Dr Ram Yash Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police (rural) Ram Badan Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) SN Vaibhav Pandey, City Magistrate SN Shukla and a large police force is present on the spot.
Sources said that the suspected miscreants are still calling the family members through the victim's mobile. According to the family members of Arpit Soni, police had informed them that the mobile phone of the deceased had been recovered as well as two culprits had been held but no such action was taken in reality and due to this the people were agitated and they brought the dead body to the crossroad and started a protest.
Arpit had reportedly gone missing since 7.30 pm on Saturday and information regarding the same was given to the local police station at around 10 pm the same day.
Although the police tried to make searches, any correct or apt information could not be traced regarding the case. UNI
