Lucknow, Nov 6: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday renamed the newly-constructed Ekana International Stadium in Lucknow after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The stadium will now be known as 'Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium.
Lucknow, will hold international cricket match after a gap of 24-years in this newly constructed stadium. The stadium has the capacity of 50,000 spectators with all modern sports facilities.
On the occasion, the CM also felicitated UP cricketer R P Singh and Praveen Kumar, who had donned the national team.
UP government on Monday had signed an agreement with Ekana Sports city Pvt Ltd for naming the international cricket stadium after former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
In the presence of several state ministers and cricketers, the CM said his government is doing everything to promote sports in the state.
"A new stadium will come up in NCR very soon and the foundation stone for which will be laid in December. Besides the government has planned to construct mini-stadium in all the 822 blocks in the state and sports field in every village," he said.
UP Deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma along with UP Sports Minister and former Indian cricketer Chetan Chauhan addressed the function.
UP Cricket Association president Rajiv Shukla was also present in the function. (UNI)
