Lucknow, Oct 16: Shivpal Singh Yadav, the rebel Samajwadi Party leader, who has now floated the Samajwadi Secular Morcha, is likely to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Ferozabad Lok Sabha seat.
Presently, Akshay Kumar Yadav, son of senior SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav, Rajya Sabha MP, represents the constituency.
In an apparent show of strength, Shivpal Yadav had conducted a road show from Jaswant Nagar in Etawah district to Ferozabad on Sunday, where over a thousand vehicles joined his cavalcade. The road show was seen as a direct challenge to the political authority of Ram Gopal Yadav by Shivpal Yadav, who has a bitter hostility with his cousin. Shivpal Yadav is a fifth term MLA from the Jaswant Nagar assembly constituency.
Large number of Samajwadi Party leaders had joined the road show and many said that they would join the Secular Morcha.
The road show started at the border of the Firozabad district and terminated at Tundla. During the whistle stop tour of the district, Shivpal Yadav was accorded warm welcome at over 50 places. Prominent among those who joined were Vijay Yadav, former chairman of Firozabad district panchayat, and son of the senior SP MLA from Firozabad Om Yadav, a close relative of Mulayam Singh Yadav. Azeem Bhai, former SP MLA from Firozabad has already been appointed as the district president of the Samajwadi Secular Morcha.
Samajwadi Party sources said the road show in the Yadav belt, the core area of the party has dampened the spirits of the party cadres as they are disillusioned with the vertical split in the party’s organization from the state to the grassroots level.
Addressing a public meeting at Tundla, the terminal point of the road show, Shivpal Yadav explained the reason for parting ways with the Samajwadi party and floating the Secular Morcha. "Despite nursing the Samajwadi Party along with Netaji and bringing it to this level from scratch in the last two decades, I was subjected to the worst kind of humiliation and now there is no place for honest and dedicated workers in the Samajwadi party", he said, adding, "Sycophants and brokers have complete sway over the party’’. He further added, I would have never floated the Samajwadi Secular Morcha, had I got the due respect in the Samajwadi party. (UNI)
