Gorakhpur, Sep 3: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath while flagging off a new Gorakpur-Delhi-Gorakhpur daily flight of Indigo Airlines here on Monday said that UP would witness 22 airports with commercial flight service from next year.

Taking a dig at the previous governments he reminded people that there were only 3 airports with commercial flight service before 2017. "In Gorakhpur too, there were no such daily service, but now three flights are coming daily. The Gorakhpur airport which looked like a Dhaba has now turned into a good building," CM said.

Union minister of state for finance Shiv Pratap Shukla, UP aviation minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi along with other people were present at the function.

The CM said that the changes were underway due to the cooperation of the centre.

The Indigo will fly a 180 seater aircraft on the route daily which had already been commenced from September 1. This would be the third flight to operate from Gorakhpur to Delhi. Earlier Spice Jet and Air India had daily flight to New Delhi from Gorakhpur.

Meanwhile, the new terminal of Gorakhpur civil airport has been constructed with a cost of Rs 22.5 crore. Initially the airport had an old waiting hall for 50 persons but now an air-condition hall with capacity of 200 seats along with four check counters and two ex-ray machines has been constructed. (UNI)
