Agartala, May 27 : A large number of home comers from hotspots like Maharashtra and Delhi has multiplied the rate of Covid-19 spread in Tripura over past three days and with the fresh detection of 34 cases last night the number of active ones rose to 65 against the positive cases of 232. According to report, the fresh cases were 28 out of 34 returnees from Mumbai by special trains in last three days, another five affected persons were in contact with the returnees and one pregnant woman of a BSF family was found positive in the hospital on suspicion where she had gone for obstetrics intervention yesterday.
With the sudden spike of Covid cases, Tripura government has announced to test all the passengers coming from Maharashtra and New Delhi keeping them in facility quarantine. In case of others, although there is no announcement of testing all home comers entering Tripura from other parts of the country, the instruction has been given to test as much as possible even asymptomatic passengers.
The government has also decided to test all 105 people coming tomorrow from Bangladesh via Akhaura integrated Checkpost and 46 from Kuwait by a special flight to Guwahati on 1st June. While Bangladesh returnees were taken to quarantine as soon as they crossed the border, the returnees of Kuwait would be brought to North Tripura by bus from Guwahati airport and be kept under quarantine there until their test reports come. Kuwait government has been sending 46 Tripura residents and 89 Assam residents by a special flight who has been in jail there for breaking local laws.
The state government has also intensified vigil in Assam-Tripura border and increased the collection of samples to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the rural parts. Tripura government has already sent 14,256 migrant labourers of central Indian states from here to their respective states and decided to send back all the stranded labourers by May 31 through eight more special trains at government cost. Apart from that the state would issue necessary travel pass for 10,324 people from 29 states, officials stated. (UNI)
