Agartala, May 14 : The central government has sent a three members expert team led by Prof G K Medhi, Community Medicine of NEIGRIHMS Shillong to find the root of Coronavirus transmission among BSF personnel in a particular area of Dhalai district in the past week.
The team, which arrived today, will also assist the health department for Covid-19 management during their stay in Tripura. The government spokesperson Ratan Lal Nath here today said that the central team is scheduled to hold a video conference with the Central Surveillance Authority in Delhi followed by a discussion with the Covid management team of the state.
After visiting Covid-hit areas, they would submit a report to the Health and Family Welfare Department of the state along with suggestions to strengthen the fight against Coronavirus. Alarmed by the sudden Covid-19 outbreak at BSF 138th headquarters, the state government had requested the Central Surveillance Team in Delhi to send a team to find out the root cause of sudden surge in Covid-19 cases. It is feared that community transmission of Coronavirus may take place if proper steps are not taken immediately. Despite a major spike in a span of a few days, the overall situation in the state appears satisfactory with no lives claimed by the deadly infection so far.
A total of 12000 Covid tests have been conducted till date in Tripura, which is highest among the northeastern states. A total of 155 samples tested positive, while 16 Covid patients have recovered after treatment, Nath added. (UNI)
