Agartala, Oct 23 : At least seven BJP supporters sustained injuries in group clash following internal feud during a meeting of Bharat Chandra Nagar panchayat samity in South Tripura yesterday and five of them were shifted to a local hospital.
The incident triggered tension in the locality and among the supporters of ruling BJP.
The official in Belonia said that a meeting of the Bharat Chandra Nagar panchayat samity started in time but soon tempers ran high over the contentious issue of distributing benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) among villagers. All the elected members owing allegiance to BJP had made commitments to their supporters and electors that the benefits would be made available to them but the official norms did not allow allocation of quota for all.
At one stage, they were engaged in violence and one Pradip Chakraborty, a member of the panchayat samity led his supporters to an attack leaving seven people injured seven, including the chairman.(UNI)
