Agartala, Oct 8 : After four-day long celebration of Durga puja, immersion of idols and Vijaya Dashami started today with the ritual of smearing vermilion among the married women to symbolize eternal love and bidding adieu to the Goddess and her family.
The four-day celebration of Durga puja was by and large peaceful this year except for a few road accidents and protest demonstration of rural people in three locations for delayed payment of social pension and wages of MGNREGA. However, there was no report of any casualty so far. Thousand of devotees hopped from pandal to pandal in the capital city and other towns despite a few spells of rain and power cut. According to immigration officials, more than 3700 Bangladeshi nationals entered Agartala through Akhaura integrated check post in the last four days besides tourists from other states.
Meanwhile Governor of Tripura Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashami and Dassehra.
The chief minister personally greeted the people at his residence and exchange sweets with the visitors. He sent about one lakh greetings card for most privileged and underprivileged people of the state. The Loksabha MP Pratima Bhowmik also greeted the people.(UNI)
