Investigation starts against baby snatching attempt in Tripura

Agartala, Jun 30: A constable of Tripura police has been detained for allegedly attempting to snatch a newly born baby from the custody of child line members at Teliamura yesterday.Police launched an investigation into the incident but nobody is arrested so far.According to the report, Biswajit Chakraborty, a constable of Kachuchara police station in Dhalai district on June 27 last had spotted a baby girl lying beside the road at Abhanga area of Kamalpur and he admitted her to the district hospital. As her condition deteriorated doctors referred her to Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC).

The doctors approached the Childline officials to safely take her to Agartala yesterday morning. Accordingly, two representatives of the child line rushed to Kulai hospital. They took the baby along and started for Agartala in an ambulance.Allegedly, when they reached Netajinagar motor stand, Teliamura, the constable Chakraborty had stopped the ambulance and resisted the Childline officials. He had reportedly accompanied by a girl snatched the keys away and got involved in an altercation with them.

The locals intervened and managed to send the baby and child line members to Agartala with police escort. The constable was handed over to the police and he was released after sometimes an investigation has been progressing in the right direction, police claimed. (UNI)
