Agartala, Jun 19 : Police today arrested two teenagers from Padmapur area of Dharmanagar in North Tripura on the charge of killing a six-year-old girl after kidnapping her on June 17 afternoon from the house.
Police said the accused Sourav Nath (18), a student of Class XII, and his friend Dibakar Das (18) of Class XI, admitted the crime but police did not tell about the reason of her murder.
Moreover, post mortem of the body has not yet been done due to the non-availability of a specialist doctor in Dharmanagar hospital.
Police have not yet been confirmed whether the girl was raped before the murder and waiting for autopsy report. The body was kept in the mortuary since yesterday morning and waiting for the postmortem, which has triggered reaction among the villagers. The authority mobilised an extra force to control the situation both in the village as well as in the hospital.
“The doctors and forensic experts are expected to carry out formalities today and accordingly the body will be handed over the family. Until post mortem is done, we cannot comment whether she was raped before the murder,” said investigating officer of Dharmanagar Women police station Sanchita Nath.
According to the report, the victim girl and her mother have been staying in the next room of Sourav. The house belonged to Sourav and he was staying alone there, as his father – a teacher - lived with other family members in Kanchanpur.
Police said the victim’s mother hails from Murticherra tea estate of Kailashahar and works as domestic help. She went to work leaving her alone in the house. In the evening when she returned, she found on one in the house including her daughter. After looking at nearby places, the late night she along with Sourav went to a police station to file a missing case.
Villagers of Halflong tea estate saw the body of a girl child in the drain yesterday and reported to the police who recovered the body.
Later, police this morning picked up Sourav out of suspicion and during interrogation he admitted having committed the crime and divulged the name of Dibakar.
Both of them took the girl in a scooty and killed her in the tea estate, police said. (UNI)
