Agartala, Jun 16: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today met union commerce minister Piyush Goyal over the proposal of the state government to set up Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Sabroom, the south most town furthering trade through border haat and taking the advantage of upcoming bridge over River Feni to connect Chittagong sea port with northeast.
Deb said, Goyal has assured him of full support for removal of trade barriers for further strengthening trade between Tripura and Bangladesh. Tripura government has been working on an ambitious plan to open up road, water and air connectivity with Bangladesh to become the gateway of South East Asian countries through Chittagong port.
“We have already moved to ensure stop over of Spice Jet flight between Guwahati and Dhaka at Agartala while returning and by end of this year, MBB airport of Agartala will be elevated as international standard and more flights would be operating through here in different destinations of South Asia. Railway connectivity between Agartala and Akhaura is progressing well to develop land connectivity besides, sea port connectivity from Sabroom,” Deb stated.
He has also interacted with Smiriti Irani and discussed implementation of textile projects in the State.
Last night, Deb met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and submitted a memorandum seeking special package for Tripura to bright the state at per with rest of the country in development parameters. (UNI)
