Agartala, Apr 7 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tripura state committee today demanded probe by Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the ‘suspicious’ rise in the assets of sitting Lok Sabha MP and CPI-M’s nominee from West seat Shankar Prasad Datta.

While seeking clarification from CPI (M) party over sources of asset growth of Datta, BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee questioned, “What has the MP done to become owner of huge assets within a short period?”

According to self-sworn affidavit of Datta showed, his asset volume in last five years increased to Rs 2.79 cr from Rs 13.20 lakh but he did not show any other profession or business except social work.

In the first phase of election to be held on April 11 next, out of eight CPI (M) candidates three were found crorepati but none of them indicated their source of income clearly, Bhattacharjee alleged.

“We are not against the income of anybody but it needs to clarify the source, which is ambiguous in all the left contestants. To remove the confusion from voters mind about Datta’s asset, we demand ED probe,” he added. (UNI)
