Journalists assaulted in Tripura: Demand for justice

Udaipur, Dec 27 : A total of four Journalists of Tripura assaulted at Udaipur Railway Station in Udaipur, under Gomati District by the anti-social activists.

The victim journalists are, Sujit Saha, Utpal Dey, Purna Debnath and Mintu Dhar and all the journalists are working as correspondent of Zee Tripura, a local TV channel of the state. A case has registered by the journalists to R K Pur Police Station, Udaipur, which is bearing number R K Pur PS C/No 221/18 under section 341, 323, 427,506 and 34IPC.

The incidence took place in front of Rail Police but they did not take any action against the anti-social activists. The incident was condemned by the members of Tripura Working Journalists Association, Udaipur chapter and the members of Gomati Zilla Press Club jointly. The members of Press demanded proper justice and the victim journalists registered a case to R K Pur Police Station against the anti-social activists.

In accordance with objections, a total of four journalists were going to Udaipur Railway station for collecting news and few antisocial activists attacked on journalists. The anti-social broke down cameras of journalists and critically injured them.

The Tripura is a state in which journalists are the main targeted persons. Journalist Sudip Datta Bhowmik shot dead at a security facility in Tripura. He was a senior journalist, was shot dead under mysterious circumstances at a battalion headquarters of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) near Agartala last year. The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) have murdered a young television journalist Santanu Bhowmik at Mandwai, 25km east of Agartala.
