The court does not decide title on the basis of faith or belief but on the basis of evidence. ….It applies settled principles of evidence to adjudicate upon which party has established a claim to the immovable property.

__ CJI Ranjan Gogoi, reading the Ayodhya verdict

************************************************************************

The resolution of the Ayodhya case and its acceptance by all sections of society affirms the faith of the people in the judiciary. It also demonstrates that any vexed issue could be resolved within the framework of the Constitution. Three decades ago on November 9, the Berlin wall had fallen and united the two parts of Germany into a nation. On this date, the Kartarpur Sahib corridor has also been opened. The SC verdict on this day gives a lesson to all that they have to walk together on the path of progress.

__ Prime Minister Narendra Modi

************************************************************************

While honouring this decision of the court, we all should maintain mutual harmony. This is a time for brotherhood, trust and love among all Indians.

The Supreme Court is supreme and final but not fallible. Our fight was for justice and legal rights. We don’t need 5-acre land as charity.

__ Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM President.

The court has accepted Ram Lalla’s side and with this our motive was fulfilled

__ Mahant Dharmdas, Nirmohi Akhara

************************************************************************

We are dissatisfied with certain findings of the Supreme Court..We respect the Supreme Court verdict and respectfully disagree with certain aspects of it.

__ Zafaryab Jilani, AIMPLB Secretary

************************************************************************

We welcome and humbly accept the verdict…we will not go for any review of the apex court’s order or file any curative petition.

__ Zafar Faruqi, UP Sunni Central Waqf Board

************************************************************************

The Court has delivered justice to both the communities. This is a historic verdict, which should be welcomed by all sections of society. This judgment will help India set an example of unity in diversity.

When I measure the RCEP Agreement with respect to the interests of all Indians, I do not get a positive answer. Neither the Talisman of Gandhiji nor my own conscience permits me to join RCEP.

__ Prime Minister Narendra Modi

************************************************************************

For the present it is the final decision, we are not joining the RCEP. But if all our demands are met which will give Indian industry more scope for growth, will open better markets without adversely affecting India’s interest…I think every government is always open for discussion and negotiations.

__ Piyush Goyal, Commerce and Industry minister

************************************************************************

Demonetisation is perhaps the single most appropriate metaphor for BJP’s ill-conceived governance model. What it did was to wipe out over one crore jobs from the economy (and still counting), take the unemployment rate to a 45-year high, shave two percentage points of GDP growth and ensure that India’s international rating moved from ‘stable’ to ‘negative’. It is now recognized as a herculean blunder by independent economists and taught across the world as a cautionary tale ‘what governments should not do’.

__ Sonia Gandhi, Congress President

************************************************************************

It ‘s not note bandhi (demonetization) did only bad things. Notebandhi gave a chance to a boy to be born in a bank. Such a big accomplishment.

Peace and harmony is the only way forward to ensure a prosperous future. The Kartarpur model may be replicated in future too for lasting resolution of conflicts.

On one hand Pakistan shows love and on the other they can try to foment trouble by doing this. This is very inappropriate. We have to be very careful of their intentions.

__ Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister of Punjab

Stubble burning must stop immediately. Both Centre and the states must do this. People are dying. The sad thing is everyone in this country is interested in all sorts of gimmicks. This is worse than Emergency now. That Emergency was better than this emergency. Delhi is choking while the Delhi government and the Centre are simply passing the buck. People aren’t safe even in their houses. This can’t happen in a civilized country. Time has come to fix responsibility for the situation that is destroying the Right to Life of citizens in gross violation of article 21. Everybody is answerable – from the states to the gram panchayats. Life of span of people is being reduced in the Capital. They are interested in electioneering only and they are answerable. We will not tolerate this.

__ A Supreme Court Bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra

************************************************************************

For years I pointed out many economic uses of rice straw. We should adopt a do ecology approach with farmers to convert rice stubbles into income rather than making them agents of economic disaster. ….I suggest that the Delhi, Haryana and UP govts put up Rice Bioparks where farmers can convert stubble into income and employment.

What is the need to do (things) like this (tapping the phones of a senior IPS officer in Chhattisgarh government and his family members)? No privacy is left for anybody. What is happening in this country? Can privacy of somebody be violated like this? Who ordered this? File a detailed affidavit.

__ A SC Bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Indira Banerjee

************************************************************************

It is strange that the Congress and the UDF are now trying to protect the Maoists. What is their interest in this? You cannot claim them as innocent people. Magisterial enquiry is going on into the incident (killing of four Maoists by Thunderbolt) and hence I am not going into further details on this.

__ Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala CM.

************************************************************************

He (Pinarayi Vijayan) is now speaking the same language of Narendra Modi. When the fake encounter case created a controversy in Gujarat, Modi has once asked: Are you more concerned for no policemen getting injured? Now our chief minister is also asking the same thing. And it is not us, but, Kanam Rajendran (CPI Kerala State Secretary) who says this.

__ Ramesh Chennithala, Kerala Opposition Leader

************************************************************************

The govt, the chief minister and the CPM do not have a clear stand or policy with regard to the killing of Maoists and the arrest of two youths. That is why there is difference of opinion among them.

__ B. Gopalakrishnan, BJP State Spokesperson

************************************************************************

It is like war: Kill or be killed…….There is no rationale in stating that Maoists who indulge in armed conflict have the same human rights and privileges as normal citizens.

__ Tom Jose, Kerala Chief Secretary

************************************************************************

The Police have no right to kill anyone associated with banned outfits merely because they are dreaded criminals or terrorists…The apex court had on various occasions indicted trigger happy police personnel, who liquidate and project the incident as an encounter. Such encounter encounters are not permitted by our criminal justice administration system. They amount to state sponsored terrorism. There are, however, cases where the police personnel, who are performing their duty, are attacked and killed and the terrorists involved have to be dealt with legally, not by resorting extra judicial killings.

__ T. Asaf Ali, Former Director General Prosecution

************************************************************************

Debates on whether the two have Maoist links or not are not relevant. UAPA should not be invoked against people who have reported links with such organizations.

__ M. A. Baby, CPIM Politburo Member

Fiction is a strange and imperfect medium but allows for the full range of nuanced complexity that the world deserves….There was a time when I truly did not think that the book would be published in India. It is a long story but suffice to say that one more than one publisher, while expressing interest in the book, told me they couldn’t publish it in its current form because of the current climate in the current.
