Hyderabad, May 16 : Telangana on Saturday registered 55 Covid-19 cases, taking the state’s total to 1509. Of the total fresh cases, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) continued to report a higher number of cases with 44, followed by migrant workers ( 8), who had returned to the state from across the country, Sanga Reddy ( 2) and Ranga Reddy (1). 23 persons from a residential apartment test positive for Covid-19 in Madannapet area of Hyderabad’s old city. All shifted to hospital for treatment and their contacts are being identified, according to GHMC officials. According to the state Director of Public Health Department, 12 people were discharged from hospital on Saturday and with this, the number of those discharged rose to 971.
With the number of deaths standing at 34, the number of active cases is 501 so far. So far, 57 migrant labourers have been tested positive for Covid-19 in the state. Meanwhile at a high-level meeting on Friday, Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao said in Hyderabad, except in four zones- L B Nagar, Malakpet, Charminar and Karwan – where 1,442 families are under quarantine, the city does not have active positive cases. After 55-days of lockdown, showrooms selling ACs, automobiles and its spare parts shops, reopened in Telangana on Saturday as the government prepares to allow more relaxations ahead of lockdown 4.0. Mr Rao said that the government would take a final decision on relaxing the lockdown in the state, which will last till May 29, after the centre’s decision is likely to be announced on Sunday when lockdown 3.0 will end. Mr Rao asked officials to continue the measures taken to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, while launching a preventive drive against the seasonal diseases during the monsoon period. (UNI)
