Hyderabad, Mar 15 : The officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit have seized 1554 kgs of Ganja, worth about Rs 3.1 crore and arrested six persons in this regard. Based on specific intelligence that prohibited narcotic drug was being illegally transported, the officers of DRI, Hyderabad Zonal Unit launched an operation and intercepted Eicher Truck bearing registration No TS 12UC 5662 and Verna Car bearing Registration No AP 29AB 7351, which is piloting the Eicher Truck proceeding from Ramoji Film city side towards LB Nagar, near LB Nagar cross roads in Hyderabad on Saturday afternoon, a DRI statement here said on Sunday.
On inspection, it was found that the vehicle was loaded with empty crates with some bags concealed under the crates emanating strong odour. On questioning, the persons travelling in the truck confessed that the concealed material is Ganja. On search of the said lorry, the officers found and recovered 1554 kgs of Cannabis also known as Ganja.
The said Narcotic drug was found packed in 751 packets, which were concealed under empty crates. The contraband was sourced in Mothugudem village and head loads were carried to Bhadrachalam and then loaded into the Eicher Truck which is destined to Bidar in Karnataka. The said Narcotic drug has been seized under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The value of seized Ganja in the grey market would be aboutRs 3,10,81,400.
The officers also seized the Eicher Truck, which has been used for concealment and transport of the contraband narcotic drug as well as the Verna Car which is piloting the truck for safe passage. Total six persons including two drivers, one owner of the truck, two ganja cultivators and a supplier found involved in the illegal activity have been arrested.
