Police detains OU Prof for suspected Maoist links

Hyderabad, Jan 18 : Police on Saturday conducted a raid at the residence of Osmania University C Kasim and took him into custody for allegedly links with Maoists. The professor of Telugu Department Kasim, who was recently elected as one of the officebearers of the revolutionary writers association, Virasam, was allegedly involved in a case registered under Unlawful Activities (prevention) Act among other section in Mulugu Police station in 2015.

According to police sources, based on some inputs that he was allegedly working as an organiser of ''united front vertical'' of Maoists for Telangana state, the raids were conducted for investigation. During the searches, certain documents, some electronic evidence and other material were seized from his residence, police said. He would be produced in a local court in Gajwel.

As the news of his detention spread, many students of Osmania University students took out rally in the campus to protest against it. (UNI)
