Hyderabad, Nov 14 : Telangana unit of BJP welcomed the verdict of the Supreme Court to refer the petitions seeking review of its 2018 judgement allowing entry of women between the ages of 10 and 50 into the Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala to a 7-Judge bench for further deliberations.
In a statement here on Wednesday, Party State Chief Spokesperson K Krishna Saagar Rao said that the BJP welcomed the Judges opinion, that questions raised on religious traditions, practices, beliefs will be all pervasive and impacts all religions and their practices.
BJP stands and works for gender equality, women empowerment and their constitutional rights. Our government and our party have always walked the talk on women empowerment, he said.
Mr Rao stated that the women lead in the BJP-led NDA government from key roles. The NDA government has made landmark laws and decisions to ensure women's rights, their security and their multi-faceted empowerment. We have a historic and unparalleled track record in protecting women's interests & rights, he added.
BJP believes religion is wholly based on faith, traditions, beliefs, rituals and practices. They should not be selectively questioned and attacked by groups with shallow political purposes, the BJP leader said and added that the Indian constitution has provided, under the fundamental rights, the right to freedom of practising religion under articles 25 to 28 and it applies to all religions.
