Hyderabad, Oct 5 : Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI),Hyderabad seized 4.9 kgs of gold worth about 1, 84,88, 736 at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), in Shamshabad near here on Saturday.
Based on specific intelligence, DRI, Hyderabad, intercepted one Customer Service Officer of Indigo Airlines near the exit gate of international arrivals and recovered from him 42 pieces of foreign marked gold packed in two packets wrapped with adhesive tape, a DRI statement here said.
When asked him by DRI officials about the source of gold, he said he received the packets from two passengers who arrived by Emirates flight from Dubai on October 4. On examination, 42 foreign marked gold bars found to be of 99.9 per cent purity, totally weighing 4.9kg, valued at Rs.1,84,88,736.
The passenger and the receiver admitted that the gold was smuggled into the country. Three persons have been arrested.(UNI)
