Hyderabad, Oct 2 : Communist Part of India (CPI) has finally decided to extend its support to the ruling TRS candidate in the multi-cornered contest in Huzurnagar assembly poll to be held on October 21. The CPI announced its decision on Tuesday evening to campaign for TRS candidate S Saidi Reddy.
As many as 45 nominations including Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Parepalli Sekar Rao, for Huzurnagar bypoll in Telangana, were rejected out of 76 candidates filed after scrutiny on Tuesday. The last date for withdrawal is October 3. The bypoll is necessitated due to the resignation of Uttam Kumar Reddy following his election to Lok Sabha.
The by-poll in Huzurnagar is necessitated by the resignation of state Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy from the Assembly following his election to Lok Sabha from Nalgonda constituency in the 2019 general elections. Uttam Kumar Reddy's wife Padmavathi Reddy is the Congress candidate. It is likely to be a direct fight between Cognress and TRS in the bypoll.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have also fielded their candidates Ms Chava Kiranmaya and Kota Rama Rao respectively for the Huzurnagar bypoll.
Meanwhile, CPI’s decision to support TRS, was a setback to the Congress as the CPI was an ally of the Congress and contested against the ruling TRS under the ‘ Praja Kutami’ umbrella in the Dec, 2018 assembly elections.
The decision was only for the by-election, CPI state Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy said and made it clear that the party will not keep quiet if the TRS government pursues anti-people policies. (UNI)
