Hyderabad, Sep 8: Thousands of people belonging to all faiths from different parts of Telangana offered prayers at the ancient "Shrine of Our Lady of Health" in Khairatabad on the occasion of Mother Mary's birthday on Sunday.
Serpentine queues of devotees including women and children were seen in AC Guards area of the city where Asia's biggest octagonal church, built during the Nizam's era, is located waiting for their turn to say prayers in front of the statue of Mother Mary in the shrine.
The festivities began with a pontifical high mass celebrated by Arch Bishop of Hyderabad. The entire A C Guards area presented a carnival look with scores of stalls selling flowers, candles, gift items, toys and other paraphernalia springing up.
The state road transport corporation plied special buses to the church from different points for the benefit of devotees. (UNI)
