Hyderabad, Sep 4 : Telangana Governor designate Tamilisai Soundararajan will take oath here on September 8.
Dr. Soundararajan, who replaces Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan, who has been continuing in the post for the past nine years, will take the oath of the office at around 11 am on Sunday.
She will be the second governor of Telangana and only the third women in the history of undivided Andhra Pradesh to take charge as Governor.
Earlier, Sharda Mukherjee and Kumudben Joshi were appointed as governors of United Andhra Pradesh.
Dr Soundararajan had contested the previous Lok Sabha poll against DMK leader Kanimozhi from the Thoothukudi constituencyin Tamil Nadu and lost in the hustings.
Interestingly, the 58-year-old new governor-designate Soundararajan was born in Nagarcoil of Kanyakumari district on June 2, the day Telangana came into existence.
Dr. Soundararajan is a medical doctor by profession and she pursued her MBBS at Madras Medical College and obstetrics and gynaecology at Dr. MGR Medical University, both in Chennai. She also did her specialist training in Sonology and FET therapy in Canada.
Dr. Tamilsai Soundararajan, a visiting consultant to multiple hospitals, was elected student leader during her MBBS days. Though hailing from a traditionally Congress family, she was attracted by the BJP ideology and started full-time work for the party.
She served the Tamil Nadu state BJP unit as south Chennai district medical wing secretary in 1999, state General secretary medical wing in 2001, all India co-convenor (medical wing of southern states) in 2005, state general secretary in 2007, state vice-president in 2010 and elevated as National BJP Secretary in 2013.
She took over as Tamil Nadu BJP President in 2014. (UNI)
