Hyderabad, Jun 30 : The Hyderabad Sailing Week, the multiclass national level sailing championship will begin at Hussain Sagar here from July 2.The championship is now in its 34rd year, and about two hundred sailors from all over the country are expected to participate in this year's event, Major General TSA Narayanan, Vice Commodore, EME Sailing Association told media here on Sunday.
Mr Narayanan said that the National Sailing coaching camp was conducted from June 10 to 30 as a precursor to the main event and for the first time laser Class Association of India along with EME Sailing Association conducted a special camp from June 20 to 30 under a foreign coach. A National Judges seminar was also conducted on June 28 and 29, he added."Hyderabad is a popular destination for sailing in the country. The wind conditions in June-July are most favourable in the Hussain Sagar Lake to hone the skills in boat handling and understanding wind shifts. This is a landmark year for the EME Sailing Association as this year the event has been accredited as the Yachting Association of India (YAI) National Ranking event where in the performance of the sailors will be ranked, which will give them points for selection into National Team'', Mr Narayanan said.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governor E S L Narasiman will be the chief guest for the opening ceremony.EME Sailing Association Honorary Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Alok Kumar Yadav said that the event would see the biggest congregation of sailors in the country. A series of events including Green Brigade Walkathon, Biker’s Rally were being planned for making Hyderabad Sailing Week 2019 a huge festival for sails for the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.Defence PRO G Surendra Babu and among others were present on the occasion.(UNI)
