Hyderabad , Jun 21 : BJP National General Secretary P Muralidhar Rao on Friday congratulated Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for inaugurating World's largest Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project earlier in the day at Medigadda Reservoir in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district and demanded a public debate on it.

Talking to newsmen at party state headquarters here, Mr Rao said that the BJP always support irrigation projects in the state because of water scarcity.

He said the BJP was always in the forefront on the construction of irrigation projects on river Godavari which are useful for the farmers.

On the construction of irrigation projects on river Godavari at Ichempally, the then BJP State President and now Governor of Maharashtra Ch Vidyasagar Rao also conducted padayatra and submitted a representation to the state government.

A detailed study was also conducted under the leadership of Prof Sheshagiri Rao and a report was submitted to the government in this regard, he said.

Mr Rao demanded the Chief Minister to furnish the details of the project including investments, loans, state government’s investment, how many acres are available to cultivate under the project and among other issues before the people of Telangana.

“A Productive discussion will become meaningful only when the information completely and comprehensively shared with the people Telangana”, he said.

Mr Rao said that it is not clear yet about the cultivation under the project. As per their calculation, the total project capacity is 240 TMCs, of them, 160 TMCs was meant for irrigation and rest for drinking water purpose for Hyderabad (30 TMCs), Mission Bhagiratha (20 TMCs), Evaporation (18 TMCs) and Industries (18 TMCs).

"One TMC of water is required to cultivate 10,000 acres. Hence, 160 TMCs water will be able to cultivate about 16 lakh acres only. So people should know about the details of the project" , he said and demanded a public debate on it.

On the campaign unleashed against the Centre by the TRS Government that the former has not supported the project, Mr Rao said that if Center has not cooperated then how it secured all the clearances including environment to complete the project in a speedy manner.

Stating that the Centre was committed for the development of Telangana, the BJP leader said about Rs 60,000 Crore was spent for the development of the roads alone in the state.

Stating that the BJP is only the alternative for TRS in Telangana, Mr Rao said in future several changes would take place in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as prominent people will join the party and invited the fresh leaders into the party.

Accusing the TRS government for not implementing 10 per cent reservations for economically backward Class, Mr Rao said they lost their quota in the 384 additional MBBS seats allocated to the state. (UNI)
