Hyderabad, Apr 6: Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, was celebrated all over Telangana with religious fervour and gaiety on Saturday. The front doors of Hindu households were decorated with mango, neem leaves and flowers, while the devout Hindus offered special pooja, both at home and in temples, to mark the day. Ugadi "pachadi," a sweet and sour dish especially made on the Ugadi day, was prepared by Hindus and distributed among the relatives and neighbours. Shops selling fruits and flowers made brisk business.
The official Ugadi celebrations were organised at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium, attended by Chief Secretary SK Joshi and other top officials. The highlight of the celebrations was the recitation of "Panchangam" (almanac), forecasting events to come during the New Year by Santhosh Kumar Siddanthi.
He said the state, which will receive good rains, will become a role model for other states in the country, in development and welfare schemes. Governor ESL Narasimhan and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao extended their greetings to the people of the state, on the occasion of Ugadi. (UNI)
