Hyderabad, Mar 24: Telangana had received 16 per cent deficit rainfall as compared to normal rainfall during the water year 2018-19 (up to February 2019).
During the water year 2018-19, the State as a whole received 722 mm rainfall (till February-2019) against the normal rainfall of 857 mm, which is 16 per cent less than the normal rainfall during same period.
The southwest monsoon contributes about 79 per cent of normal rainfall while 14 per cent was contributed by northeast monsoon and rest by other seasons in the state, According to State Ground Water Department.
Out of 31 districts, 15 districts received normal rainfall (-19 % to +19 %) and 16 districts received deficit rainfall (-20% to -45%).Out of 584 mandals, 32 mandals received excess rainfall (+20 % and above to normal), 252 mandals received normal rainfall (-19 % to +19 %), 287 mandals received deficit rainfall (-20 % to -59 %) and 13 mandals received scanty rainfall (-60 % and above).
Scanty rainfall was received in Nalgonda, Yadadri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy and Nagarkurnool districts.The state ground water department observed that Sangareddy district received -45 % (deficit rainfall) and Peddapalli district received +18% (normal rainfall).
It is also observed that deficit rainfall is more predominant in central southern and south-eastern part of state and normal rainfall is prevalent in northern and northeastern districts of the State.UNI
