Hyderabad, Feb 25 : Former Minister T Padma Rao has been elected unopposed as the deputy Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday.
His election was announced by Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy in the Assembly as soon as the House met for the day. Mr Rao, who represents the Secunderabad constituency was conducted to the Deputy Speaker's chair by Chief Minister and leader of the House K Chandrasekhar Rao and the speaker.
The deputy Speaker later occupied the chair and conducted the proceedings. Soon after the announcement of his unanimous election, the Chief Minister, ministers and members of various political parties congratulated Mr Padma Rao and recalled his services in various capacities.
Mr Padma Rao's election was a mere formality as the opposition did not have enough strength to put up its candidate for the post. UNI
