Hyderabad, Dec 4 : Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Dr Rajat Kumar has prohibited the transmission of unauthorized bulk SMS (Short Message Service) for a period of 48 hours commencing from 6pm on December 5 till the ending of hours fixed for conclusion of polling on December 7 in Telangana.
All the bulk SMSs of political nature would be suspended from 6 PM on December 5 to 6 PM on December 7, following the prohibition orders issued by the CEO based on see 7(2)e, 5(2) of Indian Telegraph Act 1885 ( 13 of 1885) as well as government of Telangana, State Director General of Police (DGP) M Mahender Reddy said in a release here on Tuesday.
The model code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of India prohibits all forms of political campaigning during the aforesaid period done through use of mobile/ PRI lines and IVR numbers.
Therefore, in pursuance of the instructions of the Election Commission of India, in order to prevent commission of electoral offences which may in turn lead to breakdown of public order and interfere with the process of free and fair conduct of elections, it said.
It is hereby directed that transmission of all the bulk SMSs, use of Mobile and PRI lines and IVRS numbers for election campaign or of political nature be stopped for the aforesaid period throughout the state of Telangana by issuing necessary orders.
This prohibition would also cover transmissions initiated from other states or licensing Service Areas (telecom circles) and terminating in Telangana State, the release added. (UNI)
