Hyderabad, Dec 4: With just two days left for the December 7 Assembly election, the Election Commission on Tuesday issued prohibiting orders in Telangana against any public meetings for 48 hours from 1600 hours on Wednesday.
In its orders , State Chief Electoral Officer, Dr Rajath Kumar said that as per the EC directive the 13 naxal infested or sensitive segments will see the voting till 4 pm to ensure fair polling.
As a result, the public meetings have to be closed at 4 pm on December 5, he said.
The segments to have early conclusion of polling are Sirpur,, Chennur (SC), Bellampally (SC) Mancherial, Asifabad (ST), Manthani, Bhupalpally, Mulugu (ST), Pinapaka (ST), Yellandu (ST), Kothagudem, Aswaraopeta and Bhadrachalam (ST), while in other segments the polling will be held till 5 pm.
The EC directed that no campaigns, meetings, ads in television channels, pre poll surveys and result of opinion polls are strictly prohibited.
He said that political parties or others have to follow suit and cooperate for smooth and peaceful conduct of the Assembly poll.
The EC will initiate immediate action against the violators of the poll code, Dr Rajat warned. (UNI)
