The condition of J Anbazhagan, DMK legislator who got covid infection and got admitted to a private hospital in Chennai on Tuesday night, has improved, the director of the hospital told reporters on Friday.
He said Anbazahagan was initially 90 per cent dependent on ventilator for oxygen and it had now reduced to 45 per cent. Now he had been put on an oxygen mask, the doctor said to put an end to rumours on social media on his health condition.
The doctor said Anbazhagan had undergone a heart surgery some years ago and he is 61. That was why he was initially critical. As the virus might relapse, he could be discharged only after he turned negative in exit tests, the attending doctor said.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami called up the hospital and enquired about Anbazhgan’s health and promised all government support for his treatment.
Health Minister C Vijayabhaskar visited the hospital to enquire about the line of treatment.
As Anbazhagan was a high profile case as he is the first MLA to get Covid, the Government went all out to support his treatment.
The DMK president M K Stalin telephoned Anbazhagan’s son Raja, who is in the youth wing, and enquired about his health.
Son of senior DMK leader Jayaraman, Anbazhgan got elected to the Tamil Nadu Assembly for the first time in 2001 from T Nagar in Chennai. He was elected from Triplicane-Chepauk in 2011 and 16.
