Chennai, June 5 : Opposition DMK Legislator J Anbazhagan,who tested positive for coronavirus and admitted to a private hospital, continues to be in a critical condition and was put on ventilator. Ruling AIADMK Coordinator and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today spoke to the hospital doctors and enquired about his health condition and prayed for his speedy recovery. Mr Palaniswami tweeted 'spoke to doctors and enquired about the health condition of Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni MLA J Anbazhagan. I Pray the Almighty for his speedy recovery'.
On the advice of the Chief Minister, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr C Vijayabaskar visited the hospital and enquired about his condition. A release issued by the hospital said 61-year old Anbazhagan was admitted on June 2 “with severe acute respiratory distress and his COVID PCR test was positive at the time of admission.” “Initially, he was managed with oxygen therapy through facemask and later on, he was put on ventilator support as his respiratory distress worsened,” it said. “
He is currently getting 80 per cent oxygen through the ventilator and his condition remains unchanged for the last 24 hrs,” it said. Anbazhagan is the first elected representative in Tamil Nadu to test positive for the COVID-19 pandemic. Son of former DMK MLA Jayaraman, Anbazhagan, who is also the South Chennai District Secretary of the party, was thrice elected to the State Assembly. He was first elected to the Assembly from the T.Nagar seat in the 2001 elections and later from Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni in 2011 & 2016. (UNI)
