Chennai, June 3 : Floral tributes were paid to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi on the occasion of his 97th birth anniversary here today. It was a low key celebration in view of the lockdown to tackle the spread of coronavirus pandemic. His son and DMK President M K Stalin, accompanied by senior leaders Duraimurugan, T R Baalu, Kanimozhi paid floral tributes at the late leader's memorial on the Marina beach front.
After paying tributes, Mr Stalin solemnised the wedding of a party cadre at the memorial and presented mementoes to the newly-wedded couple. Mr Stalin also garlanded Mr Karunanidhi's statue at Anna Arivalayam and also paid floral tributes to his portrait at his Gopalapuram and at CIT Colony residence and at DMK organ Murasoli's office. Mr Stalin also paid tributes at the memorial of late leader Annadurai on the Marina. In a statement, Mr Stalin urged the DMK cadres not to visit the memorial during his visit to pay tributes in view of the lockdown.
He also urged them to celebrate the occasion by staying at home. He also asked them to observe the day by distributing masks, sanitizers, groceries and other essentials to poor people. (UNI)
