Chennai, June 3 : DMK President M K Stalin today announced that senior leader and former Minister Duraimurugan will continue in the post of Party Treasurer. In a statement here, he said since the DMK General Council meeting to elect a new Treasurer, following the resignation of Duraimurugan, could not be held due to the corona lockdown, he would continue in the post.
As per the powers vested with him as the Party President, the resignation of Duraimurugan has been kept in abeyance temporarily and he would continue as the party Treasurer till the General Council meeting was held. The DMK had earlier convened its General Council meet on March 29 to elect a new General Secretary of the party following the demise of senior leader K Anbazhagan, who held the post for 43 years, on March seven.
Since Mr Duraimurugan was tipped to be elected the next General Secretary in the General Council, he had resigned from the post of Treasurer and it was accepted by Mr Stalin. But the meeting was postponed in view of the lockdown. Since the General Council could not be held, Mr Stalin announced that Duraimurugan would continue in the post of Treasurer. (UNI)
