Tamil Nadu, June 2, 2020 : Tamil Nadu recorded 1091 positive cases on Tuesday, taking the total to 24,586. With 13 more deaths, the toll jumped to 197, the health department said in a bulletin.
With 536 getting discharged, the total number of those cured reached 13,796, nearly 60 per cent. The number of active cases are 7,176.
Of the 13 deaths, two were cross-notified to other States. One patient died after testing negative.
Giving a breakup of the new cases, the press release said indigenous were 1036. Fifty-five were imported. Of these, two came by air from Delhi. These who came by road. Maharashtra cases were 40, Karnataka eight, Andhra Pradesh three and Kerala two.
Of the 13 deaths, only one was from Chengalpattu and the rest were from Chennai. The youngest victim was 50 and the oldest 78. Among them were three women aged 50 to 56 and all died in Chennai. The man who died in Chengalpattu was 72.
Chennai accounted for 818 cases, 12 imported and total was 16, 585. Neighbouring Chengalpattu 83 indigenous cases and four, total 1,308. Kanchipuram reported 15 new cases and total 433. Tiruvallur reported 43 new cases and six imported to reach a massive total of 1,025.
In northern Tamil Nadu, Kalllakurichi had only one new case, but took on 180 imported cases to take its total to 250 from 69.
Thiruvallamalai reported nine new cases and 142 imported to take its total 444 from 293. Cuddalore had one new case plus 15 imported (463). Villupuram had one new case and 11 imported to reach 349.Vellore had only two imported cases and its total was 47. Ranipet reported five imported cases (100).
The infection has spread rapidly only in southern Tamil Nadu, all worst hit by imported cases. Tirunelveli for example had only one new case, but had 259 imported cases. As a result its tally zoomed from 106 to 366. Adjoining Tenkasi was not so badly hit. It had one local and 22 imported cases, total 90.Neighbouring Thoothukudi was equally badly hit. It had 31 cases of its own plus 168 imported and the total as a result went up from 78 to 277.
Madurai had only one case but it imported 87 and its total jumped from 181 to 269. Theni recorded 14 imported cases and five local, to total 114. Dindigul had 25 imported cases and two local to total 147.
Ramanathapuram had one local case and 28 imported and total was 85. Adjoining Virudhanagar reported three local and 91 imported cases, total 127.Sivaganga had one local and 20, total 35.
Kanyakumari had six local and 13 imported and total was 76.
In western region, Coimbatore, five imported cases (151). Adjoining Salem had 127 imported cases and three local (206).
In the Cavuery delta region, Napattinam had in all five new cases to total 64. Tiruvavur in all six more cases (49). Thanjavur had three local cases and five imported to total 96. Tiruchi had seven new cases (95). Ariyalur reported ten imported cases (370). Karur imported 32 cases(81).
The press release said 115 were in airport quarantine and 245 in railway quarantine.
