Tamil Nadu reported 1,162 new Covid cases on Monday, taking the total to 23,495. With 11 more deaths, the toll reached 184 , the health department said in a bulletin.
It said 413 more patients were discharged on Monday, taking the total of those cured to 13,170 The number of active cases was 7,097.
Of the latest 11 victims, the oldest was a man aged 80 and the youngest a 57-year-old woman, both from Chennai. Barring a 70-year-old woman from Dindigul and a man aged 65 from Pudukottai, the remaining nine victims were from Chennai. Four were women and the rest men.
In all ,1,112 new cases were recorded. Another 50 cases were imported from Maharashtra(32), Delhi(10) and Karnataka (3) . In addition, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala,UP and West Bengal had one case each.
In keeping with the prevailing trend, Chennai topped in the list of new cases as well casualties.
In the last two days, the number of new cases in Chennai totalled 972. Of these , 964 were local and eight imported. Chengalpattu reported 52 new cases, only four of them imported. The total was 1,223. Kanchipuram had nine cases plus one imported (416) and Tiruvallur recorded 33 local cases and imported six (981).
The worst affected was Kallakurichi which had no local case, but took on a massive load of 177 imported cases to take its total to 246.
In the northern Tamil Nadu, Thiruvannamalai continued to be the worst hit.It reported ten local cases and 137 imported to take the total to 430.
Cuddalore had one local case and 15 imported to take its total to 462. Adjoining Villupuram reported eight indigenous cases and 11 imported to take its total to 354.Perambalur had one new case and two imported to total 142.Vellore reported three new cases and two imported to total 47.
In the Cauvery delta region, Nagapattinam had two imported cases( 60), Tiruvavur four imported cases(47) and Thanjavur four new cases and five imported (93). Tiruchi added no new cases, but Karur reported 32 imported cases(81).
The next worst affected was the southern region.Tirunelveli reported only one local case, but 248 imported to take the total to 355. Adjoining Thoothukudi was equally badly affected with one local case and 148 imported to take its total from a mere 78 to 227. Tenkasi had two local cases and 21 imported (88).
Madurai had no new cases, but saw a spurt of 87 imported cases to take its total 268 from 181.Virudhanagar, again in southern Tamil Nadu, had no new local case but 91 imported to take its total from 33 to 124.Theni reported 14 imported cases(109).
Ramanathapuram had two local cases and 28 imported to total 86. Sivaganga had no new case, but imported 20 to total 34.Kanyakumari had two local cases and imported 12(69). Dindigul had five new cases plus 25 imported (145).
In the western region, Salem reported 10 new cases and added `121 to its tally to total 192. Namakkal, adjoining Salem added five imported cases to total 82.
After reporting nil cases for a couple of days, Coimbatore added 15 imported cases to take its total to 151. Nilgiris, after reporting nil cases for a few days, reported a new case on Monday, to take its total to 15.
The press release said 113 were in airport quarantine and 242 in railway quarantine.
