Tamil Nadu on Thursday reported 776 new Covid cases in the State, taking the total to 13,776. With seven more deaths, the toll touched 94, the health department said in a press release.
Of the new cases, those from Tamil Nadu were 689. Returnees from Maharashtra accounted for 76 and one each from Kerala, Delhi and West Bengal. In addition, six those who came back from Chicago and one from Muscat reported positive, taking the total to 776.
The Government also said 16 out of the 38 districts had no new cases. In another encouraging development, 400 more patients were sent home on Wednesday after treatment, taking the total of those cured to 6,282.
All seven deaths were reported from Chennai in the last two days . They included six men in the age group of 47 to 80 and a 58-year-old woman. All but one had comorbidity like uncontrolled diabetes and blood pressure. The seventh, a 62-year-old man died of respiratory failure caused by pneumonia.
Out of the total 94 deaths recorded so far, Chennai accounted for 65, Tiruvallur eight and Chengalpattu five. The remaining 26 were spread across the State. Of these, Madurai, Thoothukudi and Villupuram reported two deaths each.
In keeping with the trend, Chennai accounted for 567 of the 776 new cases, taking its total to 8,795. Neighbouring Chengalpattu had 34 new cases( total 655) and adjoining Kanchipuram added 13 to new cases( total 655) and Tiruvallur a whopping 42 new cases( 636).
The Government said 87 cases imported from Maharashtra, Kerala, West Bengal and New Delhi added to district tallies. One man from Kerala added to the Cuddalore tally, taking its total to 421.
Dindigul had a case of its own, plus four from Maharashtra, totaling 132. Seven cases from Maharashtra added to one new case in Kallakurichi , taking the total to 120.
Madurai had only two new cases on its own, but it had 16 from Maharashtra and one from Delhi, taking its total to 191. Adjoining Theni recorded three new cases(96) and Tirupathur one new case(30).
Thoothukudi had five cases of its own plus 17 from Maharashtra( total 135).
Tenkasi had five cases of its own and another three from Maharashtra ( 83).
Ranipet reported four new cases ( total 88) and adjoining Vellore one new case( 35).. Thanjavur had one case of its own plus two from Maharashtra and one from Maldives( total 80).
Thiruvannamalai reported three new cases plus two from Maharashtra( 171).
Villupuram reported four cases(322) .
