Tamil Nadu recorded 536 more Covid positive cases on Monday, taking the total to 11,760. With three more deaths, the toll reached 81. Three deaths were reported, all in Chennai and all in the 50 plus to 70 age group.

Health Minister C Vijayabhaskar, releasing the update, there was no need for panic as many 11,000 tests were done every day and the fatality was the lowest at 0.68 per cent.

However, Tamil Nadu has the third highest number of cases after Maharashtra and Gujarat.

The Minister said the fatality was kept under control thanks to better tracking, testing and clinical management of the outbreak.

He also said 234 were discharged after treatment on Monday, taking the total number of cured cases to 4,406.

Chennai reported 364 out of the 536 new cases taking the total to 7,114, nearly 68 percent of the State level tally. Another 172 cases were reported in other districts which totalled 4,636.
