Chennai, May 16: A day after the Supreme Court gave the nod, the State-owned TASMAC liquor shops were opened in the state after a week-long gap on Saturday, across the state, barring in Chennai, Tiruvallur and containment zones. While the earlier system of providing Aadhaar proof (as ruled by Madras High Court) was done away with, tipplers were issued colour coded tokens, specifying the time and day of the week to get their purchase, to avoid crowd and maintain social distancing. As per the assurance given by TASMAC to the court, only 500 token would be issued per day in each shop which were opened from 1000 hrs to 1700 hrs.
Some of the shops in the state reported brisk sales and some others had to shut the shop very early after 500 token holders got their purchase. (UNI)
