477 new cases in TN, total 10, 585: Toll 74

Tamil Nadu reported 477 Covid positive cases on Saturday, taking the total to 10, 585. With three more deaths, the toll has reached 74, Health Minister C Vijayabhaskar told reporters in Chennai. The number of those cured touched 3,538., including 939 getting discharged on Saturday.

With The Minister indicated that the cases seemed to be plataeuing. He said in this regard that of the new cases, 93 were who came from Bangladesh and other foreign countries and from other States.

Of these imported cases, Maharashtra accounted for 81, neighbouring Gujarat 7, and one from Andhra Pradesh. The remaining four cases were the returnees from Dhaka, Bangladesh.

If these 93 cases are taken into account, this was the lowest single day spike in cases in recent times.

The Minister said several western districts of Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Tiruppur as well many other districts reported no new cases for the past ten days or so.

He attributed the fall in the number of new cases to early diagnosis, better clinical management and treatment. He also said the fatality rate was 0.7 per cent, the lowest in the country.

Chennai remained a hotspot accounting for half of the total number of cases. It accounted for 332 out of the 477 new cases reported on Saturday. Chennai also accounted for 6, 271 of the 10, 585 case which worked out to 59.31 per cent.

Tiruvallur adjoining Chennai reported ten more cases, taking the total to 527, while Chengalpattu had 13 more cases, totaling 470.

Tiruvannamalai reported seven more cases, Kanchipuram four more and Kallakurichi and Madurai three each.

Dindigul, Nagapattinam and Villupuram reported two cases each. Kanyakumari, Ranipeti, Tenkasi, Vellore and Virudhanagar one each.

The remaining districts which had a high incidence were Cuddalore (416), Villupuram ( 309), Ariyalur (348), Tiruvannamalai( 147), Tirunelveli( total 180), Coimbatore( 146), Namakkal (77), Erode ( 70) Thanjavur ( 72), Ranipettai ( 81), Tiruchi( 67), Madurai( 147), Theni ( 79) and Karur(56).

Other districts with high number of cases were Tenkasi( 61), Nagapattinam( 49), Virudhanagar ( 47), Salem (35), Tiruvarur (32), Vellore ( 34), and Thoothukudi (56), Tirupattthur(28), Kanyakumari (37) and Ramanathapuram ( 31).
