Chennai, May 10 :Taking a dig at the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, Actor Rajinikanth today warned that the state government should forget its dream of coming back to power if it reopens the state-owned TASMAC liquor shops.
The liquor shops were closed since March 25 in view of the nation-wide lockdown to combat coronavirus and it was opened across the state in non-containment zones, sans those coming under Chennai police limits on May seven.
However, the next day Madras High Court had ordered closure of all the shops as social distancing was not maintained while urging the state government to sell it online with door delivery to avoid crowding in liquor shops, following which the State government has knocked the doors of Supreme Court against the order.
Reacting to it, Rajinikanth, in a tweet said, ''If you reopen TASMAC, forget about coming back to power''. He also said the state government should find other good ways to fill its coffers. ''If the state reopens the TASMAC again at this time (when the state was battling to tackle the corona spread), it must forget the dream of coming back to power again. Please find good ways to fill your treasury”, the actor said. The Assembly elections were due in the State in May next year and the actor, who had already confirmed his political entry, was yet to formally launch his own party, though he had told his fans on the 2018 New Year eve that that his target was 2021 Assembly polls in which he would contest all the 234 seats in the State. Rajini's good friend and actor-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam Founder Kamal Haasan also opposed the government's move to open TASMAC shops, a view expressed by several opposition parties, including the DMK, Congress and AIADMK's allies the BJP, DMDK and the PMK.
