Cop on COVID duty dies, TN CM announces Rs 50 lakh solatium

Chennai, May 8 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today announced a solatium of Rs 50 lakh and a government job to the family of a cop, who was killed in an accident, while on COVID duty.

In a statement here, he said the Head Constable, attached to Hosur Police station in Krishnagiri district, was on duty at Jujuwadi check post, erected as part of coronavirus prevention measures, on the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border when he was hit by an Ahmedabad-bound container lorry from Chennai last evening.

He said a speeding tipper lorry rammed into the container lorry, which in the impact, hit the barricade and knocked down constable Settu, who was on the other side of the barricade. He said the cop suffered serious injuries and died on the spot. Expressing shock and grief over his death, CM Palaniswami announced a solatium of Rs 50 lakh to his family and a Government job to one of the family members according to educational qualifications.
