580 new Covid cases in TN, total 5,409: Toll 37

With another 580 new Covid cases on Thursday, the total zoomed to 5,409. With two more succumbing to the virus, the death toll touched 37. In keeping with the trend, half of the total cases were from Chennai. It had 316 out of the new cases and its total reached 2,644.

Again neighbouring districts of Chennai like Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram along with Cuddallore and Villupuram saw a huge jump in the number of cases.

Affected by the spread of the disease from Chennai’s Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market, Cuddallore had recorded 32 new cases to touch a new high of 356 cases, and adjoining Villupuram reported 45 new cases to 205/ . Ariyalur reported 34 new cases, taking the total to 246 and Kallakurichi had a total 58.

Perambalur near Tiruchi saw 33 new cases , taking the total to 73.

The deaths were also spread across the State. Chengalpattu reported 2 deaths and 13 new cases, taking the total to 158. Adjoining Kanchipuram reported two deaths and two new cases, taking the total tally to 89. Likewise, Tiruvallur had 63 new cases, taking the total to 192 cases.

Tiruvannamalai recorded one death, Madurai two, Dingidul one and Thoothukudi one. Madurai had a high 111 cases and Dindigul 107.

Karur reported two new cases, taking the total to 47.

Krishnagiri , which was in the green zone till recently , reported four new cases, taking the total to eight.The neighbouring Dharmapuri had a negligible two cases.

Likewise, Thanjavur reported five more cases, taking the total to 62.

Coimbatore tally unchanged at a total of 146 cases. Tiruppur stayed at 114 cases. Namakkkal ‘s tally of cases stayed at 76.

Ramanathapuram reported two new cases, taking the total to 23, and Pudukottai which was also relatively free from the virus reported two new cases, taking the total to five. Tenkasi also remained at 51.

Ranipet reported seven cases, taking the total to 50. With three new cases, Tirunelveli had a total of 68.

Kanyakumari remained stayed at 17 cases and Sivaganga at 12.

On the positive side, another 31 patients were discharged after treatment, taking the total number of those cured to 1,547.
