With 266 more new Covid cases reported in Tamil Nadu on Sunday, the total number of those affected touched 3,203. With a man from Coimbatore dying in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai, the toll went up to 30, the Health Department said in an update.
Of the new cases, Chennai accounted for 203 taking its total to 1,458. This is half of the number of cases in the State.
Unofficial reports said 131 of these patients had visited the Koyambedu wholesale vegetable and fruits market in Chennai.
Apart from Chennai, most of the new cases were reported from Kallakurichi , Ariyalur, Madurai, Tenkasi , Coimbatore and Tiruvallur.
Villlupuram reported a spike of 33 new cases and neighbouring Cuddallore another nine, most of them had returned from Koyambedu.
The health department said 1,379 had been discharged after treatment, while 1,611 were under treatment. Of those, one each was from Pudukottai and Dharmapuri.
The district-wise breakup showed that the disease was spread across the State. Chennai topped the list with 1,458, Coimbatore 146, Tiruppur 114, Madurai 90, Dindigul 81, Erode 70, Ramanathapuram 30, Sivaganga 12, Nilgiris 9, Perambalur 11, Ariyalur 28, Kallakurichi 15, Vellore 22, Kanchipuram 41. Tirupattur 18, Kanyakumari 17, Tiruvanallamalai 16,Tiruvarur 28,Thoothukudi 27, Cuddallore, 39, TIruchi 51, Viluppuram 86, Nagapattinam 48, Theni 44, Karur 43, Ranipet 40, Tirunelveli 63, Namakkal 61, Chengalpattu 83, Tiruvallur 70 and Thanjavur 57.
