TN seeks more Central aid to combat Covid


Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami on Monday urged the Centre to provide additional Rs 1,391 crore from the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund to supply foodgrains to the ration card holders and also to pay financial assistance to farmers.

Taking part in a video conference Prime Minister Narendra Modi had with all State Chief Ministers, he asked the increase in foodgrains supplied under the PMs Kisan Arogya Yojana from the present 22 kg.

He also financial support to the government for monopoly procurement of grains so as to help them double their income.

Palanisami also urged the Centre another Rs 1000 crore special assistance to increase Covid testing facilities and provide personal protection equipment to doctors and other paramedical personnel . Besides, he also sought note PCT kits.

The Chief Minister also urged the Centre to give relief to small and medium enterprises by deferring advance GST and income tax by six months and waiver on interest on loans taken by these units so they could pay salary to its employees.
