With 54 new Covid cases reported in the past 24 hours, the number of those affected in Tamil Nadu touched 1,683 on Thursday, the State Health Department said in a press release.
With two more deaths, the toll went up to 18.
Of the 54 new cases, Chennai accounted 27. taking total to 400. Among the new patients were four children, a three-year-old girl and boys aged 4, 5 and 7.
With the disease spread across 37 districts, Krishnagiri was the only one which was free from any infection.
Among the new cases was a 54-year-old nurse attached to a private hospital in Chennai. Her residential area of Valasaravakkam has been sealed by the Chennai corporation. As she used to go by bus to the hospital, all those in contact with her are being traced.
Chennai topped the list with 400 cases, followed by Coimbatore (134), Tiruppur (110),Dindigul (80), Erode (70), Tirunelveli (63), Chengalpattu (57), Thanjavur and Namakkal (55 each), Madurai (52), Tiruchi (51) and Tiruvallur (50).
The press release said in all 752 had been discharged after treatment.Till date, samples of 59,952 people including 6,954 on Thursday, had been tested. Of these, 1,683 hadtested positive, Another 1,433 samples were under process.
