The number of Covicd19 cases in Tamil Nadu increased to 1075 on Sunday with 106 reporting positive on Sunday, Health Secretary Beela Rajesh told reporters in Chennai in an update.
Though12 persons had died in the State so far with three on Saturday, Beela Rajesh put the official tally at 11. A Palakkad man died in a hospital in Coimbatore on Saturday night, but he has been added to the Kerala’s list.
Dr Rajesh said that out of 10,065 who were tested so far, 1075 had tested positive. Another 39,000 were in home quarantine and 160 were in Government isolation centres.
She said the blood samples of suspected cases were being tested in 15 Government facilities across the State and eight in private labs in a coordinated manner.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition M K Stalin on Sunday accused Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami of playing petty politics over Covid cases by sidelining first Health Minister C Vijayabhaskar and entrusting media briefing to Beela Rajesh,, in between leaving it to Chief Secretary K Shanmugham.
In all other States, it is the Health Minister or the Chief Minister himself who brief the media and report to the Union Health Ministry .
When Palanisami and Deputy Chief Minister O Pannerselvam called on the State Governor recently to brief him about the situation, he excluded Dr Vijayabhaskar.
Reports say Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami did not like Dr Vijayabhaskar hogging the limelight in view of the Covid19 outbreak in the State.
Stalin said Palanisami had shown the same kind of flipflops since the virus affected Tamil Nadu. He said when he wanted the budget session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly in March to be adjourned in view of the epidemic, Palanisami refused first and later got the House adjourned sine die.
