Chennai, Apr 11 : An aged man died of coronavirus pandemic in Tamil Nadu, taking the toll to 10, even as 58 fresh positive cases were reported on Saturday, taking the tally to 969 in 34 districts of the State. Chief Secretary K Shanmugam told reporters here that an aged man died in Erode district taking the number of deaths to 10.
Meanwhile, 58 fresh cases were reported today. Of them 47 had links to the Tablighi Jamaat conference in Delhi last month. Tamil Nadu is now second on India's COVID-19 chart behind Maharashtra, where it inched towards the 1,700 mark. He said a total of 9,842 samples were tested of which 7,779 turned negative and 969 positive. The results of 1,094 were awaited. Among the positive cases in the state includ 10 doctors. On the Delhi meet, he said a total of 1,480 people from the State attended the Nizamuddin Markaz and the samples of 5,065 people, including those who attended the conference and their contacts were sent for testing. A total of 881 of them, including 47 today, have tested positive.
Shanmugam said 51,996 people were under home quarantine and 165 in government quarantine centres. A total of 44 patients were discharged after treatment. In the State, Chennai, with ten new cases, topped the list with 182 cases, followed by Coimbatore, which reported 11 cases today at 97, Erode (60), Tirunelveli (56), Dindugul (55), Namakkal and Chengalpattu (41 each). he said at present 165 asymptomatic passengers from highly affected countries were being quarantined in quarantine facilities near airport and 1,884 were under hospital isolation.
