B Lokesh, a 23-year-old youth from Namakkal in Tamil Nadu who died in Hyderabad while on a long walk back home from Nagpur on Thursday, was cremated in his home town on Friday
Namakkal district collector Maragesh said B Lokesh was a diploma holder and he was working since Feb 14 in a private company in Nagpur ( and not studying as reported earlier) .
Stranded in the town after the nationwide lockdown, Lokesh left Nagpur on a truck on March 30 along with 24fellow migrant workers. Travelling partly by foot and partly by getting lifts in trucks, Lokesh and his travel mates reached Hyderabad on Wednesday night, exhausted and dehydrated.
Revenue department staff and police shifted all the youngsters to a Telangana government shelter in West Marredpally in Secunderabad where facilties for a bath and dinner were provided. After dinner, Lokesh collapsed and died. He was shifted to Hyderabad Government hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. They said he might have died after a massive heart attack
After post-mortem examination, the body was sent in an ambulance to his native town of Pallipalayam, a weaving town 55 km from Namakkal where he was cremated.
Lokesh's father is a watchman a textile mill and his mother works at a local garment store.
