Tamil Nadu on Wednesday sought an additional assistance Rs 4,000 crore from the Centre to fight coronavirus .
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he also sought an additional Rs 500 crore for grant under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
In an address to the people of the State and asked people to make a success of the 21-day lockdown announced by the Centre by staying at home to break the chain of Covid19 infection.
He said his government had set apart Rs 3,850 crore for taking several measures to be taken on a war footing and said10,000 additional hospital beds had been readied to face the influx of patients. The Government would maintain essential supplies like rice, vegetables, meat and milk.
He also said ration articles like rice, edible oils and sugar would be supplied free to card-holders and even April quota would be included.
Saying social distancing was key to fighting this virus, he said people going out to buy essentials should keep a one metre distance.
He told the people:” Stay awake, stay apart and stay safe”.
