The Tamil Nadu Government has shut all primary schools from Kindergarten to Class V till month-end to contain the spread of Coronavirus and cancelled all film shows in cinemas in districts bordering Kerala.
Announcing a slew of measures, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami in a statement advised people to avoid travels, especially to neighbouring States like Kerala which have reported quite a few cases, to avoid risk of contracting the virus and bringing it back to the State.
The Minister has also said that as per the guidelines issued by the Centre on the basis of WHO norms, screening facilities have been stepped up in Chennai, Madurai and Tiruchi airports with hospitals nearby to admit and isolate incoming passengers with symptoms.
The Chief Minister also said Government officials managing Hindu temples have been told to keep a watch on devotees to avoid crowding.
Health Secretary Beela Rajesh has declared Coronavirus as a notified virus to empower officials to collect statistics of those with symptoms to contain its spread.
Though over one thousand incoming passengers from the US , Europe and the Gulf have been screened and isolated, only one positive case has been reported. The patient from Kanchipuram, who was working as a construction supervisor from Doha, Qatar, is now out of danger, according to the Government.
However, private hospitals say they have been advised by health officials not to treat patients coming with symptoms but refer them to Government General Hospitals . Officials are also alleged to have threatened to cancel the licences of these hospitals if they defy the directive.
